Over a second thought, this all process and skill check is to test to read between the lines. This is necessarily required in decision making. The GMAT test fabricators do this on purpose where the applicant faces a dilemma in an answer choice which feels good but is logically wrong. We are taught to eliminate the obvious visible wrong answer choices, but there comes a stage when you are trying to decide which out of the closest last two answer choices is the correct one. They say to make an intelligent guess at this juncture of decision making. Intelligent guessing - if proven right will never be called a guess then. That's what GMAT expects us to do, even if you are guessing something, you must guess it right.

The person really committed to the mammoth target of scoring a 700+ will have to undergo a reincarnation process. Transformation of personality, attitude and character. The verbal skills to be developed on an initial level are :

1) Be an avid voracious reader and developing a sense of rearranging the read text as per standard Premise -> Facts -> Conclusion format.

2) Identifying the tone of the text written, author's severity and directness in claiming certain conclusion. The tone may be neutral, critical, subtle, circuitous etc.

3) Reading popular business related article in HBR, Economic Times. The variety of articles at www.thebrowser.com  and www.aldaily.com are really helpful in getting an idea of various new areas of literature, science and history.

4) Start noticing sentence formation in standard literature from editorials and business articles in Economic Times.

These are few preliminary tips before you hit the books and question types.

Hello Guys, One thing I have noticed in GMAT Critical Reasoning questions is that they need 100% of your attention while you solve them. Each word and it's usage means something, the real art is to know and anticipate why that word was used instead of other obvious choices. Knowing the obvious might be what we  call fundamentals in logic and reasoning.
